Building Policy and Asset Management works with Queensland Government departments and agencies, and industry stakeholders to provide Queenslanders with better, safer and more sustainable places to live, learn and work.
We offer government agencies and departments an extensive range of services, professional knowledge and expertise to fill skill gaps, free up resources or increase capabilities. We also provide legislative services, asset and facilities management, building and construction and project delivery. Using our strengths enables our customers to focus on theirs.
As part of the Department of Energy and Public Works, we understand the need to make it easier for Queenslanders to access government information and services. Developing and administering building-related legislation codes and whole-of-government policy and standards, including:

Building legislation and policy
We develop and advise on building, plumbing and security of payment legislation, codes and standards and other building-related legislation and policy. This includes supporting the government’s non-court-based appeals resolution services and infrastructure charges notices. We develop policy in partnership with relevant industries to deliver a safer, fairer and more sustainable building and construction industry in Queensland.
Whole-of-life asset management
We can help you manage your infrastructure or fleet assets across their lifecycle including acquisition, operation, maintenance and disposal. Our lifecycle asset management framework provides transparent, informed decision-making processes to help you comply with your obligations to source sustainably and reduce risk.

Our strategic asset lifecycle advice can optimise your assets’ performance and value and deliver value for money from your investment. The Office of the Queensland Government Architect provides design leadership, advocacy and strategic advice to government, industry and the community. Our core aim is to add value whilst balancing design, project constraints and commercial realities.
We work with industry and across government ensuring spending on building construction and maintenance programs is planned and collaborative to maximise value for money and opportunities for local businesses through job creation and improved social outcomes.

We assess building assets and provide asset lifecycle projections to help you make informed investment decisions.
We can carry out your planned and unplanned maintenance to ensure government assets are maintained to the agreed standards of condition and amenity. We offer value for money by grouping similar maintenance work packages across government agencies and locations.
Disaster management and response services
We mobilise our frontline staff quickly to undertake repairs and maintenance to Queensland Government assets and restore key services to help rebuild communities. Our expert staff are trained and supported to treat community members with sensitivity and empathy to ensure they receive the help they need.
This includes assessment and management of native title searches and compliance, surveying and legal services to support the subdivision and disposal of land and property.
Asset disposal is required when government assets become surplus to demand.
Effective asset disposal planning is critical in the management and performance of built infrastructure and vehicle assets. Proper planning ensures the assets don’t become a financial burden and supports forward estimates and budget processes by enabling reinvestment of disposal revenue.
Our expertise in property disposal includes the assessment and management of native title searches and compliance, surveying and legal services to support the subdivision and disposal of land and property. Using our property expertise, we engage and manage the right agents to sell your property, helping you to manage the risk, constraints and complexities of time, cost and quality relating to disposal.
