Bridging the gap with technology
Baidam Solutions has been operating for only 2 years and is already making a difference as a supporter of the Buy Queensland approach by providing employment opportunities for Indigenous people in the ICT sector.
The Brisbane small business is Indigenous-owned and a Supply Nation Certified ICT Consultancy that partners with a number of world-leading security vendors to provide ICT security services and solutions. Their mission is to become Australia’s leading Indigenous IT Security Solutions provider by 2025.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Baidam Solutions have noticed an increase in ICT security business requirements with people working from home and this brought them opportunities for new customers. After recently securing a 12-month contract to supply ICT services, they hired another team member taking their number of employees to a total of 5.
Baidam Solutions has just partnered with the University of Queensland to establish a scholarship in perpetuity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in information technology and other science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related studies, starting from 2020.
CEO, Phillip Jenkinson said that his drive and passion come from wanting to create a legacy for Queenslanders who may not be as fortunate as him.
“Giving back to the local economy will help us all ‘Bridge the Gap’ of Indigenous representation in the IT security sector.
“I find it personally rewarding to work with students to create a pathway for their future career in ICT security.
“We want to be able to benefit the community and generations of Indigenous students to help create Indigenous role models in industries other than sport.”
