[Sue and Penny, GMN/Vegie Prepi, Brisbane]:
I’m Sue and I’m Penny and we’re from GMN Vegie Prepi.
The business was started by Penny around about 26 years ago.
She noticed a gap in the market to do processed fruit and vegetables.
I joined her a few years later where we decided to go into the wholesale side of the business as well as the processed (and the rest is history).
GMN Vegie Prepi when we first started basically had around about four to five staff, we now employ up to 50 staff.
We are proud that we are one of the suppliers to the Queensland Government.
Buy Queensland – it means job growth, it means helping small business, it means helping the whole economy for Queensland.
Brisbane-based business GMN/Vegie Prepi, a wholesaler and processer of fresh fruit and vegetables, is proud to be a supplier to the Queensland Government.
Operating out of the Brisbane Market in Rocklea, GMN/Vegie Prepi is run by sisters Sue and Penny and employs up to 50 people.
GMN/Vegie Prepi is listed on the Queensland Government’s Food and Beverage Supplier Directory and uses this as a selling point for the business.
“I always make the point that we are on the directory so potential new customers can see we are serious about supporting Queensland and Queenslanders,” Sue said.
“We regard our suppliers as partners, and we know that by helping them they will help us when we need it.”
The business had to meet the criteria under the Queensland Procurement Policy to be eligible, including using local products and having a local workforce.
Sue and Penny said the business is committed to supporting the local community.
“Helping provide jobs for locals is important to us, just as spending with local companies is a priority,” Sue said.
“Being a small business we also like to support other Queensland small businesses – buying local, staying local, that’s what we want to do.”
“Buy Queensland means job growth, it means helping small business, it means helping the whole economy for Queensland.”
