Talking to your community about REZ
Date: 27/07/2024
We’re inviting local communities to have a say about developing a renewable energy zone (REZ) in your area and take part in our REZ readiness assessments.
Our first sessions take place in Central Queensland at workshops, community pop-up or drop-in sessions over June, July and August 2024.
These sessions will help us:
- understand your community's views
- plan the rollout of REZs
- minimise any impacts from developing a REZ
- identify opportunities for your community to benefit from a REZ.
What we'll cover
Topics include:
- First Nations considerations
- local infrastructure, like roads and bridges
- transport
- workforce
- housing and accommodation
- local industry, supply chains and the circular economy (how we recycle and reprocess waste)
- land use and agriculture
- environment
- social infrastructure, including health.
Workshops
Our workshops are an opportunity to join an in-depth discussion on local issues and priorities as part of REZ development in your region.
These workshops are shaped by the feedback we've received at our drop-in and pop-up sessions.
First Nations focused community workshops
You’ve given us feedback about how you want to engage with us. We’ve listened and added extra workshops so we can focus on issues that are important to First Nations communities.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
We’ve engaged First Nations people to design and facilitate these workshops.
They’re planned for:
- Biloela
- Rockhampton
- Woorabinda
You'll need to register to attend our workshops.
Please note: If you register for a planned workshop, and it is cancelled due to lack of interest, we’ll contact you to discuss other ways you can get involved.
Community workshops
We’ve held community workshops in Biloela, Gladstone, Moranbah and Rockhampton throughout July 2024.
Community drop-ins and pop-ups
Join us at any of our drop-in and pop-up sessions.
We're running pop-up stands at local events or drop-in sessions at other local venues, so you can learn more about REZs. We'd like to chat with you about what's important to you and your community and answer any questions you may have.
You are welcome to come to any session that is convenient for you and attend as many sessions as you would like.
There's no need to register for drop-in and pop-up sessions, simply come along.
