2020
- Investment of $145 million supports investigation in 3 broad areas with potential for renewable energy development.
- Northern, Central and Southern Queensland Renewable Energy Zone (QREZ) regions are identified.
- Storage and transmission infrastructure is built to support more clean energy generation.
- Community and industry engagement is central to developing QREZ regions.
2023
- QREZ regions are refined to align with Local Government Areas.
- Draft Queensland Renewable Energy Zone Roadmap is released, the framework for developing renewable energy zones (REZs).
- 12 potential REZs are identified, based on network capacity, grid connection, project pipeline and land use. Locations to be further defined as each REZ is declared for consultation and development.
- Public consultation on REZs and Queensland’s renewable energy transformation takes place.
2024
- Updated Queensland Renewable Energy Zone Roadmap is released following public consultation.
- Consultation results published in the Stakeholder Insights on the Energy Transformation Report.
- The first readiness assessments begin, improving our understanding of potential impacts and opportunities at a regional and local level. Issues such as workforce, housing and infrastructure will be considered, and local benefits and opportunities will be identified.
- Continued engagement with communities and industry about developing REZs.
