Sustainable electricity supply options for the Daintree
The Queensland Government is working with the Daintree community and stakeholders to deliver the Daintree Electricity Supply Study.
This work is assessing and comparing possible fit-for-purpose options for reliable and sustainable electricity supply for the Daintree region into the future.
While numerous studies have been conducted in the past, these have not fully investigated:
- how electricity supply options would be delivered from a commercial perspective
- the costs that Daintree households and businesses would be responsible for, including how much they would be charged for electricity.
The new study is filling these gaps and comprehensively canvassing all aspects of energy supply, including recent advances in electricity generation and storage techniques.
This will ensure the Queensland Government can consider up to date information ahead of any decision on the best path forward for electricity supply in the Daintree community.

Study findings
An independent evaluation and multi-criteria assessment of different electricity supply options for the Daintree region has been undertaken by KPMG with the support of GHD.
This analysis examined 6 potential options for electricity supply in the Daintree.
The Queensland Government has not made a decision to support any particular option at this time.
Community consultation sessions and a public survey have provided an opportunity for us to hear what Daintree community members think about electricity supply for the region and the relevant commercial, technical, environmental, social and cultural impacts and opportunities.
We value the feedback provided by the Daintree community and this is now being carefully considered.
